Notion AI pricing has changed more than once in the past year, and the current situation is genuinely confusing. Let me cut through it.
Short version: The $10/month AI add-on is dead for new users. Notion AI is now bundled into the Business plan. If you want AI in Notion starting today, you’re looking at Business pricing. Here’s exactly what that means and whether it’s worth it.

What Changed (and When)
Here’s the timeline of Notion AI pricing, because it matters for understanding what plan you might be on:
- 2022: Notion AI launched as an experimental add-on.
- 2023: Official $10/member/month add-on, available on all plans.
- Late 2024: Notion began moving new features (Notion Agent, AI Meeting Notes) exclusively to Business tier.
- May 2025: Notion retired the AI add-on for new Free and Plus subscribers. Existing subscribers were grandfathered at $10/month.
- 2026: Business plan is the entry point for new AI access. AI capabilities have expanded (Notion Agent, Custom Agents with credit system).
If you were a Notion user before May 2025 and already had the AI add-on, you’re in a good position. Keep your subscription active and you’re effectively on a discontinued pricing tier that’s a significant discount relative to what Business costs.
Free Plan: What You Get Without AI
Notion Free is generous for personal use. Unlimited pages and blocks, basic collaboration (up to 10 guests), 5 MB file upload limit, and 7-day page history. No AI features as of 2026.
If you’re using Notion primarily as a personal knowledge base or note-taking app and don’t need AI assistance, Free is entirely functional. The lack of AI becomes noticeable only when you try to use the AI writing features or search and find they’re locked.
Plus Plan: The Middle Ground That Doesn’t Include AI
Plus costs $10/user/month billed annually ($12/month monthly). It adds unlimited guests, 30-day page history, unlimited file uploads, and custom domains.
Importantly: Plus does not include Notion AI. If your reason for considering an upgrade is AI features, Plus isn’t your answer. You need Business.
Plus makes sense for individuals or small teams who need the collaboration limits lifted and the file upload restriction removed, but don’t need AI.
Business Plan: Where Notion AI Lives Now
Business costs $15/user/month billed annually ($18/month monthly). This is the plan you need for Notion AI access as a new subscriber.

- Private teamspaces
- Advanced permissions
- Bulk PDF export
- 90-day page history (vs. 30-day on Plus)
- SAML SSO (enterprise-grade login security)

Notion AI features in Business (2026):
AI Writing Assist — The core feature: use AI to draft content, edit existing text, summarize long documents, change tone, translate, or fix grammar. Accessed by typing /AI in any page or highlighting text and clicking “Ask AI.”
Notion AI Search — Natural language search across your entire workspace. Instead of searching for keywords, you can ask “what did we decide about the product roadmap in Q1?” and it surfaces relevant pages. Genuinely useful for large workspaces.
AI Meeting Notes — Connects to your calendar, joins meetings, auto-transcribes, and creates structured summaries with action items. Available for Google Meet and Zoom. This is a legitimate feature that saves real time if you’re meeting-heavy.
Notion Agent — The newest AI feature. Notion Agent can execute multi-step tasks across your workspace autonomously. “Create a weekly review template from this structure and populate it with data from our project pages.” Still maturing but functional for structured task automation.
Custom Agents (credit-based) — Custom Agents were launched in May 2026 and use Notion credits. The pricing: $10 per 1,000 Notion credits, purchased separately on top of Business. Credits pool across the workspace and reset monthly. This is an additional cost beyond Business plan pricing for heavy Agent use.
Is Business Worth It for Notion AI?
This is the real question. At $15/user/month ($180/user/year), Business is a significant commitment.
For solo users: $180/year for Notion AI is more than the old $10/month ($120/year) add-on. Whether it’s worth it depends on how central Notion is to your workflow. If you’re already paying Plus ($120/year) and want AI, upgrading to Business costs $60/year more. That’s reasonable if you’ll actually use the AI features.
For a solo user who wants AI writing assist and search only — $15/month is within range of standalone AI writing tools like Grammarly Pro or even a ChatGPT Plus subscription. The advantage of Notion AI is that it’s integrated directly into your workspace. That’s real value if Notion is your primary workspace, but it’s a consideration if you’re using Notion loosely.
For teams: The math gets better quickly. If you have a team of 5 on Plus paying $10/user/month = $50/month total, upgrading to Business for everyone adds $5/user/month = $25/month more for the full team. For 5 people, you get AI Meeting Notes alone saving probably 2-3 hours of meeting transcription work per person per week. Easy math.
AI Meeting Notes is the killer feature for teams. If your team has more than a few meetings per week and someone is currently taking notes or transcribing, AI Meeting Notes pays for the upgrade on its own.
The Grandfathered $10/Month Add-On
If you have it, keep it. The $10/member/month add-on is no longer available to new subscribers — you’re on a pricing tier that doesn’t exist for new customers.
The only risk: Notion could eventually retire grandfathered pricing entirely. There’s no announced timeline for this, but it’s a practical reality. If/when that happens, existing add-on subscribers would need to move to Business pricing.
Comparison: Notion AI vs. Standalone AI Tools
Worth asking: should you pay for Notion Business just for AI, or use Notion Plus + a standalone AI tool?

If you want AI writing AND the native search AND meeting notes in one integrated package, Notion Business is competitive. If you only want AI writing assist, using Plus + an external tool at the $264/year combined price point gives you more capability (external tools are generally more powerful than Notion’s built-in AI).
The Verdict
Free: Fine for personal use, no AI.
Plus: Right if you need collaboration without AI.
Business ($15/user/month annually): The only path to Notion AI for new users. Worth it for teams (especially for AI Meeting Notes), reasonable for individuals who are already Notion-heavy.
Grandfathered $10/month add-on: Keep it. Don’t let it lapse.
The pricing change Notion made in May 2025 was a price increase dressed as a product restructuring. The AI add-on at $10/month was a better deal for individuals than the Business plan at $15/month. For teams, the math is more balanced. Just be honest with yourself about whether you’ll actually use the features enough to justify the cost.
